Meet Sanaquinita
She’s transforming her life, thanks to your support.
“I had a job at Jewel Osco for three years, and I was moving up through the company. But then my mother passed away. I went into a deep depression, and I wasn’t myself. I thought I needed a change, so I gave my notice at Jewel and enrolled in massage therapy school.
“At this same time, I was in a relationship that I didn’t realize was toxic. I gave too much to this relationship and not enough to my studies. So I failed the licensing exam by 30 points. Here I was, still dealing with my mother’s death and this feeling of failure and it just plunged me deeper into my depression.
“I got a grief dog, CJ. I love him so much. He gave me that spark I was missing. By loving him, I realized my relationship lacked respect. I took a stand for myself. I wouldn’t take any more disrespect. I ended that relationship.
“During that time I found a really great support friend, April. She was like my Cara before Cara. She was a motivating person to me. I looked up to her so much and I started to get that spunk back.
“I first heard of Cara when I went to apply for SNAP benefits. I told them I wanted to work and get back on my feet.
“I was a little taken aback during my first impression. It was like I was in a support group. After listening to the stories in Motivations…these people being really raw and really open. It was a support system, they want to help you. It was very motivating to me.
“Cara taught me to look with new eyes. When I was going through my depression, I lost my identity. I never had a problem talking to people, but I didn’t know who I was anymore. Coming to Cara and being around other individuals whose lives are completely different from mine made everyday a learning opportunity.
“The love and support here shocked me. People didn’t have my back the way Cara did.
“I’ve learned it’s okay to let go of the past negativity. It’s okay because you’re only blocking your future blessings. Since I’ve done that, things have opened up for me drastically. I now see how great I can be.”
